VISUAL ARTS (2021)

Art for Healing

In a time of keeping distance from the world around us and living in altered circumstances, many of us are turning to art to find ways to cope and to make connections with what we are missing. In this segment, student artists explore the possibilities of art as a healing tool. Student artists amplify the power of art to inspire social activism, exploring artistic expression as a powerful tool for self reflection or for reflection for others to call for action.

Imagining The Future

Since the beginning of the 21st century, Technology and human lives have been inseparable. Technology has radically transformed our societies and daily lives.   Imagining the Future features works that push and challenge the boundaries of technology, experimenting with materials and works that imagine how our lives can improve with the use of technology in the near future.

Sanctuary

In this fast paced society coupled with the increasing level of uncertainty brought about by the pandemic, it is ever more important for one to find their own Sanctuary. The works here explore students’ personal definitions of sanctuary through the visual representations of their physical and emotional spaces.

Strength in Nature

This part of the exhibition examines how the beauty and complexity of the natural world have inspired our students, featuring the use of nature to imagine dreamscapes, close observations of the natural forms and harmony in nature. The interrelatedness between nature and humans brings out personal experience of the wonder and joy of nature.

Technology: Promise And Perils

Today, when technology seems to be an integral part of our lives, it is even more crucial for us to be mindful of how it can impact our lives. In this section, student artists explore the ways in which some of us are making use of the affordances to improve lives while others allow technology to take over the physical world, exploring issues brought about by the use of technology.

The Rhythm Of Forms And Colours

Music and art have a close relationship. In this segment, student artists draw inspiration from music and their surroundings to explore ideas beyond reality by using non-objective art elements such as shape, forms, colours, lines and textures to create an artwork that is open to interpretation. Observe how the artists interpret our world and music through art, representing their personal thoughts and feelings through the imaginative application of elements of art.
