Artist’s Statement:
My artwork consists of a patient in need of an organ transplant surrounded by piles of unuseable telephones. The telephones symbolise the numerous calls for help in search of a suitable organ donor, and it being an object of the last resort that the patient could turn to. It’s distorted image that takes the shape of a human kidney increases in size, highlighting her intensifying desperate calls for help. The background features a vibrant pop art which contrasts with the patient’s plight. The popular art culture, which highlights others’ ignorance and lack of concern for such problems, serves as a contrast to the predicament. The faces of the background with fingers on their lips represent the apathy and silence of the majority in regard to the feeling empathy toward transplant patients who are on the waiting list. The search for hopea and a human organ donor still continues.
